Bunker Hill Community College STEAM Summer Enrichment, Ages 8-14

Bunker Hill Community College will offer its STEAM Summer Enrichment Program for ages 8-14.  No experience is necessary.  Six one-week courses are offered in two sessions defined by age:  9AM-Noon is for ages 8-11, and 1-4PM is for ages 11-14. Register online.

NuVu’s Summer Programs

NuVu Studio will offer four summer programs in Cambridge and one in Scituate:

Edge on Science: Summer Engineering Program for Ages 9-14

Edge on Science offers these summer programs for budding scientists and engineers at Regis College in Weston and Gann Academy in Waltham:

Each is a project-based introduction to engineering using drawings, tools, hardware, measuring instruments, computer applications, and modeling. They are week-long day programs (except for Hydraulics, which is 3 days) with fewer than 7 students per instructor.

BU Codebreakers Summer Program for Girls in Grades 9-10

Boston University is hosting CODEBREAKERS, a new four-week non-residential summer program for girls in the greater Boston area who are currently in Grades 9-10 and interested in learning the fundamentals of cyber-security as it relates to forensics, law, and computer programming. The program will run 9AM-3PM at BU’s Computer Laboratory, July 10-August 4, and will include lectures, hands-on training, visits to technology companies, and guest speakers to explore career opportunities. No experience in cyber security or computer programming is required. The cost is only a $100 registration fee for those accepted. Lunch is included. Applications (including two recommendations) are due May 1. (Undergraduate and graduate students may apply here to teach in the program.)

Boston College’s iDESIGNS Summer Program for High School Students

Boston College’s iDESIGNS Institute will host a two-week summer program in which 20 U.S. students entering Grades 10-12 will learn and collaborate with students from the JinLing High School (Nanjing, China) in designing and developing hydroponics systems. The program will be held in twice (July 10-21 and July 24-August 4), and the cost is $1000 per two-week session. Each day will include coursework 9AM-3:30PM and supervised free time in makerspace and science lab 3:30-5:30PM. The focus will be on learning about engineering design, hydroponics, coding, and Chinese culture. Applications are due April 24. Newton Community Ed: Marine Biology Summer Program, Grades 9-12

A stand-out among the summer STEM programs offered by Newton Community Education is a for-credit course in Marine Biology for students entering Grades 9-12. It includes classroom and lab work and four full-day field trips:  Massachusetts Bay aboard a UMass research vessel, inter-tidal ecosystem in Nahant, shorebird ecology at Parker River National Wildlife Refuge and Sandy Point Reservation in Plum Island, and salt-marsh ecology Waquoit Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve in Falmouth. Final Info Session on TEC Career Exploration & Internship Program, Apr. 4

The Education Collaborative (TEC) will hold the last information session about its Career Exploration & Internship Program on April 4, 7-8PM at the Morse Institute Library (lower-level meeting room) in Natick. Non-profit TEC offers this summer program to students who have completed at least two years of high school. Many internships involve 60 hours over 4 consecutive weeks, but timing varies for some. Registration for the information session is not required.  Apply online for internships. Placements are made on a rolling basis.
