Registration is now open for spring and summer programs at NuVu Studios in Cambridge.
MIT’s Women’s Technology Program is an intensive, four-week summer residential academic program for girls currently in Grade 11 to explore engineering through classes, labs, and projects. Separate programs are available for Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (40 students) and Mechanical Engineering (20 students). Applicants must have strong curiosity about one of these fields (but no direct experience in it yet) and also excel in math and science. Applications are available online and are due January 15. There is no fee to apply. The cost for attendees is $3,500 and is waived entirely for families earning less than $120,000. Empow Studios has extended until December 5 its 15% discount on registrations for vacation and summer camps in 2018. This includes an expanded 10 weeks of summer programs at two locations in Newton: the Leventhal JCC and Empow Studios’ new location at 180 Needham Street.

Empow Studios is offering a 15% discount until November 30 on registrations for Tech Design or Minecraft summer camps in Newton/Needham (at Leventhal JCC), Brookline (at Heath School), Lexington (at Empow Studios), and other locations. Topics include animation, audio/video production, robotics, 3D design, and graphic design.
KIDS 4 CODING is offering its summer tech program, with various weekly courses held during July 3 – August 18, at Lesley University in Cambridge. Space is still available.
The Newton Free Library is recruiting tweens entering Grades 5-7 for Design Squad Global, to be held on six summer Tuesdays evenings (July 11, 18, 25, August 1, 8, 15) at 7PM in second floor Teen Area. Each week, the Design Squad will take on a new engineering challenge, some of which will involve designing solutions to global problems. There will be lots of problem-solving, creativity, thinking outside the box, and hanging out with other like-minded kids. The Library is partnering with similar clubs in South Africa and Swaziland to share videos back and forth, share design ideas, and get to know each other over these six weeks. MIT’s Summer HSSP is a weekend academic program (July 9-August 13) for students entering Grades 7-12 (plus those who just graduated high school). Courses are run by volunteers on Sundays at various times between 12PM and 4PM. Registration is now open until June 19 on a lottery basis, with equal consideration given to all applicants registering by that deadline. STEM Pathways — a Boston University/MIT outreach program for synthetic biology — will host three one-day Training Sessions in Synthetic Biology this summer for students entering Grades 10-12 or freshman year of college. The sessions will be held 10AM-4PM on May 27, June 10, and June 24 at 610 Commonwealth Avenue in Boston. Register online at least two weeks before the Saturday session you select.
