The free, participatory workshop is for adults and youth 14 years or older. Learn how to control robotic telescopes and analyze images for evidence of exoplanets. Draper High-School Summer Internships: Apply by Apr. 11
The Charles Stark Draper Laboratory in Cambridge is accepting applications from high-school students (16+ years, entering Junior or Senior year) for summer internships, July 11-August 19. Three or four students will be selected for each of three project teams:
- Bacteriophage DNA engineering to detect bacterial species
- Software development for mathematical modeling of underwater implosions in confined areas
- Android GUI development for calculating targets for cargo air-drop missions based on weather, payload weight, airplane type, and parachute characteristics.

MassBay Summer Programs for Middle and High School
MassBay Community College in Wellesley will again offer summer programs for middle- and high-school students:
STEM Summer 2016 is for students entering Grades 7 and 8. It runs Monday-Friday, July 11-21, 9AM-3:30PM, costs $350, and includes classes and projects in math, biology, physics, and computers.
Summer Bridge offers two separate tracks for high-school students, and for each a $100 fee is due at registration:
- For all high-school students: Four non-credit workshops, Mondays-Thursdays, July 11-21 from 9:30AM to 3:30PM: Artbotics, Coding with Scratch 2.0, Mobile Apps with AppInventor, and Cool Coding with Raspberry Pi.
- For rising Juniors, Seniors, and graduating Seniors: A college-credit, interdisciplinary course, Making a Robot with Pi will be offered Mondays-Thursdays, 9AM-noon, June 27-July 21.

Nominate an Outstanding K-6 Teacher for a Presidential Teaching Award
The Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST) are the highest Federally granted honor for excellence in K-12 mathematics and science teaching. Up to 108 teachers may be honored each year, and each receives a certificate signed by the President, a trip for two to Washington, DC for meetings and award events, and $10,000. This year, nominations are open for teachers of Grades K-6. Anyone may nominate a teacher by April 1, and applications from nominated teachers are due May 1.
‘Science on State Street’ Festival, Apr. 23, Seeks Presenters and Volunteers
Framingham State University’s Christa McAuliffe Center seeks presenters and volunteers for the second annual Science on State Street festival on April 23, 10AM-2PM, on its campus (directions). It’s free and open to all ages, with hands-on activities (in biology, chemistry, physics, food science, robotics and engineering), featured presentations by FSU faculty and invited scientists, conversations and performances that explore the interaction between science and the arts, and planetarium programs. NSHS/NNHS Students Awarded Statewide NCWIT Honors in Computer Science
Students from Newton North HS and Newton South HS have won statewide recognition in the annual Aspirations in Computing program of the National Center for Women & Information Technology (NCWIT). In a ceremony at Wellesley College last weekend, Newton South sophomore Hannah Cole was named a Massachusetts winner and national runner-up, and Newton North junior Winnie Chan was named a Massachusetts runner-up. NCWIT recognizes high-school women for achievements, aptitude, dedication, and leadership in computer science. Girls in Grades 9-12: Register Now for ‘SET in the City’, Apr. 2
The Boston Area Girls STEM Collaborative will host its 8th annual SET in the City program on April 2, 9AM-5PM, for girls in Grades 9-12. It’s a day of STEM career exploration with presentations, hands-on laboratory activities, and panel discussions. The group starts at Boston University and travels to lunch at Harvard, Emmanuel, Northeastern, Tufts, or Biogen. Breakfast and lunch are included. Pre-registration is required and must be completed by submitting two signed waivers and a registration fee ($20, or $5 if on free-lunch program). There is a limit of 10 participants (first-come/first-served) from each high school, and the registration fee is non-refundable unless registration is denied due to that limit. The Boston Area Girls STEM Collaborative includes Boston University, Emmanuel College, Harvard University, MIT, Northeastern University, Science Club for Girls, Simmons College, UMass Boston, Wentworth Institute of Technology, and WGBH.
Register for Clark University’s Spring Splash, Grades 5-12, Apr. 10
Clark University’s Spring Splash — a one-day program offering over 70 classes for students in Grades 5-12 — will be held April 10, 10AM-5PM on the Clark campus (950 Main St., Worcester).
