HackExeter is a one-day hackathon at Phillips Exeter Academy (20 Main Street, Exeter, NH) on May 4 for middle- and high-school students of any level of programming experience. Participants, working in teams or solo, will have one day to create a project inspired by the contest’s theme, and there will be prizes for the top three projects and the top developer. Food and snacks will be provided, and each team will be provided a mentor. Teams and/or individuals mustregister, and each registration must provide name and phone of a designated chaperone.
BU’s U-Design Summer STEM for Middle Schoolers
Boston University offers several U-Design summer STEM workshops for students entering Grades 7-9, in two separate sessions (8:30AM-4PM) at the BU College of Engineering. Students pick one workshop per session:
- Robo-Alley (July 8-12 and July 15-19 )
- Electrical & Mechanical Gizmos (July 15-19 )
- Flight School 101 (July 8-12)

MassBay Offers STEM Sampler Workshops for Disadvantaged High-School Students
MassBay Community College in Wellesley will offer free, one-week STEM Sampler Workshops this summer for eligible high-school students to explore one of the following, July 15-19, 9AM-3PM:
- Science (Biotechnology Lab Work)
- Technology (Robotics and Web Design)
- Engineering (Engineering Design)
- Math (interactive, contextualized in STEM)
Eligible students are those who are eligible for free or reduced lunch, or will be the first in their family to attend college, or are under-represented in college admissions. iCode STEAM Programs Opening in Wellesley in June
iCode will open its STEAM programs in its Wellesley location (73 Central Street) starting in June. These will include after-school programs and summer programs in Virtual Reality, Artificial Intelligence, Drones, Digital Arts, 3D printing, Game Design and Development, Mobile App Development, and Electronics. Future City Finals: Live Stream, Feb. 19
The global finals of the Future City competition, a four-month civil-engineering program for middle-school students, will be broadcast live on February 19, 8:30AM-12:30PM. The fourth Wellesley STEM Expo will be held on April 6 at Wellesley High School. Last time, over 3000 attended this amazing event with over 120 exhibits, 21 workshops, and 40 robots! MIT Museum Teen Science Cafe: Nanoscale Engineering, Feb. 23
The MIT Museum (265 Massachusetts Ave, Cambridge) will host its next Teen Science Cafe for Grades 9-12 on February 23, 6-8:30PM, focused on nanoscale engineering and its impact. Admission is free and dinner will be provided. Seating is limited and registration is required. The event will include short talks and conversations with scientists, as well as time to explore the Museum galleries.

Framingham State University’s Moon Landing in Context program will offer a panel discussion, From “Fashioning Apollo” to Designing Space Suits for Mars, on February 28, 7-9PM, at FSU’s McCarthy Center Forum (100 State Street, Framingham) to explore engineering, history, and culture in the evolution of space suits. It’s free, and registration is required.
