Summer Pre-College STEM Programs at UMass Mt. Ida in Newton

UMass Amherst offers summer pre-college, residential programs for high school students at its Amherst campus as well as its Mt. Ida campus in Newton. Local Newton students can participate on a commuter basis for these STEM programs at Mt. Ida:

Harvard Museum of Natural History: Summer Science Weeks, Grades 1-8

Harvard’s Museum of Natural History offers Summer Science Weeks for students entering various grades next fall. All sessions run Monday-Friday, 9:30AM-Noon.

MIT’s You Go Girl! Summer Program for 9th Grade Girls, July 5-8

Registration is open for You GO Girl!, the MIT Edgerton Center’s summer introduction to science and engineering for girls entering Grade 9.  This non-residential program for 24 girls in the greater Boston area will return in-person July 5-8, 8:30AM-2:30PM.  A suggested donation of $100 for materials is requested. BU’s U-Design Summer STEM Workshops for Grades 6-9, July 18-22

The Technology Innovation Scholars Program (TISP) at Boston University’s College of Engineering will offer three U-Design summer STEM workshops for students entering these grades next fall:

The workshops will run July 18-22, 8:30AM-4PM Monday-Thursday and 8:30AM-6PM on Friday. Registration is limited to 20 students per session. Empow Studios: STEM Open House in Newton, Apr. 9

Empow Studios will host a free Open House in its Newton location on April 9, 1PM-3:30PM, so parents and students can meet the Empow team and learn about Empow’s award-winning, project-based STEM classes and camps. Tours will start every 30 minutes. Register here for the Open House. Empow Studios encourages self-confidence, curiosity, creativity, and collaboration through the design and creation of animated movies, video games, 3D-printed objects, and other projects. Enrollment is now open for summer camps and after-school classes, both in-person and online.

Registration Open for “e” Inc. Summer Science Discovery, Ages 6-12

“e” inc. — Boston’s environment science learning and action center — will offer two summer science discovery programs for students in ages 6-12 at the Charlestown Navy Yard (114 16th Street, Room 1030). Each session is limited to 35 students and runs one week, 9AM-3:30PM daily, with after care available until 5:30PM. For more information, call 617-894-3409.
