MassBay Community College in Wellesley runs a STEM Mentor Program in which STEM professionals meet with its students at least once a month during the school year. Activities during the year include periodic STEM Forums, a Robo-Sports competition, hands-on STEM activities, and tours of four-year colleges and local STEM companies. Free Microsoft Summer Camps in Natick Mall
The Microsoft store in the Natick Mall hosts a series of free summer camps, available in various schedules (two-hour, two hours daily over four days, etc.) and for various age groups (ages 6+, 8+, 13+, young professionals, etc.).
Apply to Join TiE’s Young Entrepreneur’s Program, 2019-2020
The TiE Young Entrepreneurs is an extracurricular program for students in Grades 9-12 to foster skills in building a startup. Along the way, it helps them identify and develop pathways to reach personal and professional goals. Participants meet in Kendall Square, Cambridge on alternate Saturdays, October through April, to learn from startup founders and tech industry experts, using a time-tested, rigorous curriculum. Student teams compete for up to $5000 in seed funding for ventures they create. About 90% of TYE’s 400+ participants say that the program influenced their decision to pursue studies and a career in STEM. The cost is $1650, and need-based scholarships are available. Applications for the 2019-2020 school year are now open, and decisions are made on a rolling basis and will be announced August 30. LigerBots: FIRST Lego League Info Night, June 17
FIRST Lego League (FLL) is a robotics competition for Grades 4-8 in which teams build and program LEGO robots and complete a project by creating and presenting a solution to a real-life problem related to the year’s FLL themed challenge. The Newton high-school robotics team, the LigerBots, supports local FLL teams through mentoring, promotion, and hosting two regional tournaments each year. On June 17, 7PM-9PM, the LigerBots will hold an information session in the Newton North HS Film Lecture Hall for parents to learn about FLL while interested students participate in fun STEM activities. MassBay Community College will host its bi-annual STEM Expo, 1PM-2PM on May 1 at its Wellesley Hills campus cafeteria (50 Oakland Street) to highlight accomplishments of students and faculty in Engineering, Math, Computer Science, Life Sciences, and Biotechnology. It’s free and open to the public, and business and industry professionals, community organizations, high school students, teachers and administrators are encouraged to attend.
