High-school students in Grades 10-12 may take courses for high-schoolers at Tufts — in-person on the Medford campus, or virtual, or hybrid. The Fall semester courses run September 8 to December 23. Registration is open now.

2021 Congressional App Challenge is Now Open; Apps Due Nov. 1
All Massachusetts members of Congress have joined other House colleagues in hosting the Congressional App Challenge. Students in Grades 6-12 may register, as individuals or in teams of up to four, in the Congressional District in which they live or attend school. Apps may be created in any language, on any platform, on any theme or purpose. They must be submitted by November 1. Submissions will be evaluated by local judges who work in academic, software, and entrepreneurial fields. The winning app from each participating Congressional District will be announced in December and will have their apps highlighted online and in an exhibit in the Capitol.
Museum of Science: Imagination and STEM (Survey and Public Panels)
Boston’s Museum of Science, through funding from the National Science Foundation, is exploring the relationship between imagination and STEM. The public is invited to participate in these activities:
- An online survey about imagination and STEM
- Unpacking the STEM Imagination, a 3-session series of public panel events:
- Raising the Imagination: September 8 (12:30-1:45PM)
- Imagination and STEM Futures: September 9 (5:30-6:45PM)
- Cultivating Contexts for Imaginative Thinking in STEM: September 13 (3:30-4:45PM)
Code Ninjas: Fall Classes …and Hiring Part-time Instructors
Code Ninjas in Wellesley is offering these in-person classes this fall:
- JR Program (ages 5-6): Weekly hour-long classes (of up to 10 students) to explore programming, robotics, science experiments, and STEAM-related arts. Sign up for Signup here for free, exploratory workshops on August 31 (2PM-3PM) and September 11 (10:30AM-11:30AM) to try it out.
- Create (ages 7-14): Coding program. Sign up for a free game-building session and a (virtual or in-person) tour of Code Ninja’s facilities.

Science from Scientists (SfS) is a nonprofit based in Bedford,specializing in STEM education, and currently serving over 5,000 students in Massachusetts, California, and Minnesota. SfS seeks volunteers to help assemble science kits for use in schools and homes.

STEM program provider Edge on Science reminds us that the Perseid Meteor Shower will be visible this week, August 11-13, and provides guidance for observing it.
TiE Young Entrepreneurship Academy, Grades 9-12, Apply by Aug. 15
The TiE Young Entrepreneurship Academy is a rigorous, six-month, in-person extracurricular program (September-April) for Boston-area students in Grades 9-12 to foster skills in building a startup. Participants meet in Kendall Square in Cambridge every other Saturday, except for school breaks. The program uses a proven curriculum in entrepreneurship and business acceleration, taught by experts in the field, to help students tackle real-world problems. Along the way, it helps students identify and develop pathways to reach personal and professional goals while collaborating with like-minded peers and learning from startup founders and industry experts. The program includes a competition for up to $5,000 in seed funding and a chance to represent Boston at the TYE Global Competition (where the Boston team came in 2nd place this year). The cost is $1,750 and financial assistance may be available. Space is limited, and the application deadline is August 15. Call for Presenters for MAST Conference, Nov. 5
The Massachusetts Association of Science Teachers (MAST) seeks proposals for presentations at its annual conference, November 5 at the Best Western Royal Plaza in Marlborough. The theme of the conference will be “Rekindle, Rethink, Recharge,” and presentations may be lectures, workshops, or share-a-thons. Applications will be accepted online until September 18.
