The Christa McAuliffe Center at Framingham State University continues its season of free, virtual planetarium AstroNights events for families (ages 6+) with an online presentation, Home for the Holiday (Skies), on December 18 at 7PM. It will be an astronomical “variety show” inspired by the science and cultural traditions of the Winter Solstice. N.E. Aquarium Free Film: ‘Entangled’ Right Whales, Dec. 1
On December 1, 6:30-7:30PM, the New England Aquarium and the Lowell Institute will offer a free screening of the film Entangled, about efforts to save the critically endangered North Atlantic right whales. It will be followed by a panel discussion with:
- Filmmaker and Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter David Abel
- Peter Corkeron, Senior Scientist and Chair of the Kraus Marine Mammal Conservation Program, Anderson Cabot Center for Ocean Life

Everyone worldwide is invited to participate in Hour of Code — “the largest learning event in history” — during the week of December 7-13. Lincoln Labs’ Science on Saturday: Curious About COVID, Dec. 12
MIT Lincoln Laboratory is offering its Science on Saturdays programs virtually this year, and registration is NOT required. The programs are free and designed for children aged 5-17, their parents, and teachers. On Saturday, December 12 at 10AM, the program will be Curious About COVID, in two parts:
- Part 1: Wide-area Fever Screening will describe the building of a prototype digital imaging system to measure body temperatures of crowds of people.
- Part 2: Become a Junior Epidemiologist will present an online game to help explain terms such as quarantine, contact tracing, super-spreader, exponential growth, herd immunity, isolation, protect the vulnerable, and flatten the curve.

Girl Scouts Online STEM Expo Seeks Presenters for Workshops & Expo, Mar. 20-21
The Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts will hold its 9th annual STEM Conference and Expo for Grades 6-12, this time online, on March 20-21. Girls’ STEM Summit Online for Grades 8-12, Apr. 3 & 10
Jr. Tech will sponsor its Girls STEM Summit online, in two half-day sessions (8:30AM-noon) on April 3 and 10. It’s open for all persons in Grades 8-12 who identify as female, non-binary, or other gender identity or expression to explore STEM fields and career choices. Participants will meet female STEM experts, attend career-track sessions and an inspirational keynote, learn about STEM fields, and how to apply to colleges with STEM degree programs. The cost is $65 per student. Registration is available for individuals or groups.

FSU Virtual Planetarium: Solar System Explorers, Ages 5-8, Nov. 24
The Christa McAuliffe Center at Framingham State University will hold a live, virtual, interactive session of Solar System Explorers for ages 5-8 on November 24, 4PM-5PM. Register here for $10 per child. This show is usually offered for school classes, and this particular session is for individual sign-ups.
