Blue Hill Observatory Webinar: Thin Line Between Snow and Rain, Jan.27
On January 27 at 11AM, the Blue Hill Observatory will host a webinar featuring NBC Boston meteorologist Tim Kelley talking about The Thin Line Between Snow and Rain — How Forecasters Handle the Challenge. To support the nonprofit work of the observatory, a registration fee ($10 for BHO members, $15 for others) is requested. Girls’ STEM Summit Online for Grades 8-12, Apr. 3 & 10
Jr. Tech will sponsor its Girls STEM Summit online, in two half-day sessions (8:30AM-noon) on April 3 and 10. It’s open for all persons in Grades 8-12 who identify as female, non-binary, or other gender identity or expression to explore STEM fields and career choices. Participants will meet female STEM experts, attend career-track sessions and an inspirational keynote, learn about STEM fields, and how to apply to colleges with STEM degree programs. The cost is $65 per student. Registration is available for individuals or groups.
Women of Science Scholarship Competition, Now Online, Apr. 24
Bedford HS is moving its annual Women of Science Scholarship Competition online. It will be held on April 14, 2:30PM-6:15PM, and is open to teams of female students in junior and senior high school. They will compete in four online events that are based on areas of biology, chemistry, engineering, environmental science, math, and physics. Register closes on March 10. Sign Up for CS Recitations Competitions: JavaScript Feb. 26, Python Mar. 5
CS Recititations invites all students to sign up for one or both of its upcoming in-person competitions — JavaScript or Python — at its school at 5 Michigan Drive in Natick. Each is a live, fun, in-person coding competition with clever coding problems, in two age groups: Junior (up through Grade 7) and Senior (Grades 8-12). For each group in each competition, first-place wins $50, and first and second places win badges and certificates. Registration for either competition is free for current CSR students and alumni, or $25 for non-affiliated students.
Karel JavaScript Competition: February 26 at 3:30PM or 5PM or 6:30PM. Online practice materials, competition rules, and access to an online coding environment will be available about one month before the event.
Python 3 Competition: March 5 at 3:30PM or 5PM or 6:30PM. The Junior group focuses on functions and control structures, and the Senior group adds in data structures, as well. Online practice materials, competition rules, and access to an online coding environment will be available about two weeks before the event.
