FSU Planetarium Online — AstroNights Live, July 14, 21 & 28

The Christa McAuliffe Center at Framingham State University continues its free, virtual planetarium AstroNights events for families (ages 7+) with these online presentation in July.

Mass Audubon Summer Programs and Events

Mass Audubon is offering several summer programs and events:

  • World of Insects:  An online series of 6 sessions for adults, on Wednesdays, July 21-August 11, 7PM-8:30PM. $85 ($70 for members).
  • Nature Walks:  Over 170 in-person events at wildlife sanctuaries across the state, some for adults and some for adults with children.
  • Sensory Friendly Days:  Events at wildlife sanctuaries at times when they are closed, quieter, or less busy – – expressly for people on the autism spectrum or with other sensory-sensitive needs.
  • Firefly Watch Community Science Project: Spend at least 10 minutes a week during firefly season to observe and report your findings.

New England Aquarium: 1 Online Event June 21, and 3 In-Person Films

The New England Aquarium and the Lowell Institute will host Harvard Kennedy School Prof. Cornell William Brooks on June 21 at 6:30PM for a free online conversation on The Call of the Wild in Our Cities  — an historical and local calling for citizen activism to protect our environment. The Aquarium is also showing three 22-minute films on a regular basis in its Simons Theatre: Great White Shark, Turtle Odyssey, and Ocean Odyssey. Read synopses and reserve tickets here.

Partial Annular Solar Eclipse at Sunrise, June 10

The solar system will be presenting a free, annular solar eclipse on June 10, just after sunrise. As viewed in Newton, it will be a partial eclipse, with the moon covering about 73 percent of the sun. It will begin before sunrise (5:07AM), reach maximum coverage at 5:33AM, and end at 6:32AM. Registration is not required. In case of clouds, the event will not be canceled but will not be visible from Newton. Follow these safety tips and never look at the sun directly, even during the eclipse.

FSU Planetarium Online — AstroNights Live: A Star’s Life, June 16

The Christa McAuliffe Center at Framingham State University continues its free, virtual planetarium AstroNights events for families (ages 7+) with an online presentation, A Star’s Life, at a new date and time — June 16 at 7:30PM. In a 30-minute presentation (followed  by Q&A session), learn about the vast time scales and events of the lives of stars. Christa McAuliffe Center Family Nights: Virtual Mission Simulations

The Christa McAuliffe Center at Framingham State University will offer virtual mission simulation programs for families on Wednesdays, 7:30PM-8:30PM, throughout the summer. The cost is $10 per participant (or $15 for two participating via one device). Register here.
