MIT Lincoln Laboratory is offering its Science on Saturdays programs virtually this year, and registration is NOT required. The programs are free and designed for children aged 5-17, their parents, and teachers. On Saturday, October 23 at 10AM, the program will be Space Weather! or Take Cover! LigerBots Invite Newcomers to Introductory Meeting, Sept. 13
The LigerBots, Newton’s dual-high-school FIRST Robotics Competition Team, will hold its first meeting of the year on September 13 at 6:30PM at the Newton North HS Film Lecture Hall. All students at either Newton North HS or Newton South HS who may be interested in entrepreneurship, leadership, or robotics are invited to come learn about the team and talk with its members. The LigerBots offer training and hands-on experience in a wide variety of technical, business, and other fields including manufacturing, electrical engineering, programming, marketing, and graphics. Robo Boston: Robot Block Party and STEM Activities, Oct. 2
MassRobotics will host Robo Boston, a two-day series of events on October 1-2 at the Seaport Common (85 Northern Avenue, Boston). On Saturday, October 2, there will be two free public events 11AM-4PM, at which over 30 organizations — robot manufacturers, university labs and robotics clubs — will demonstrate robots or provide hands-on experiences:

FSU Planetarium Full-Dome Film: Birth of Planet Earth, Sept. 17
The Christa McAuliffe Center at Framingham State University will show the in-person, full-dome film, Birth of Planet Earth, on September 17 at 5:30PM and 6:30PM. Recommended for ages 10+. The cost is $5. Masks are required. Register here.
FSU Planetarium Celebrating the Launch of the James Webb Space Telescope, Sept. 15 & Oct. 15
The Christa McAuliffe Center at Framingham State University will celebrate NASA’s launch of the James Webb Space Telescope with two events, one virtual and one in person:
- AstroNights LIVE online event: The James Webb Space Telescope — A Giant Leap Forward in Our Quest to Understand the Universe and Our Origins, on September 15 at 7:30PM, for ages 12+. View the presentation on Zoom (registration required) or the Christa McAuliffe YouTube channel. Free.
- In-person event at McAuliffe Center (also livestreamed): The James Webb Space Telescope: We Can See the Beginning, on October 15 at 7PM. Dr. Kathryn Flanagan, Astronomer Emerita at the Space Telescope Science Institute and former Webb mission head, will speak.
FSU Planetarium: In-Person, Full-Dome Films are Back!, Aug. 24-26
The Christa McAuliffe Center at Framingham State University will return to offering in-person, full-dome films, starting August 24-26 with this film schedule, generally for ages 10+. The cost is $5. Masks are required. Register here.

Northeast HamXposition in Marlborough, Sept. 10-12
Online registration is open for Northeast HamXpostion, taking place in-person at the Best Western Royal Plaza Hotel & Trade Center (181 Boston Post Road, Marlborough) on September 10, 11, and 12 for hobbyists, makers, STEM enthusiasts, school and scout groups, and amateur radio operators from all over New England. Sci-Tech Amateur Radio Society (STARS) and New England Sci-Tech (NEST) in Natick will have booths there, will host a youth forum, and will host various workshops and talks. The cost is $18 for events on all three days, with free admission for full-time students with student IDs.
HMSC Online: Animal Encounters — Pint-Sized Predators, Sept. 14

MAST and MSELA Webinar: Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Antiracism (DEIA) in Science Education, Sept. 20
The Massachusetts Association of Science Teachers (MAST) and Massachusetts Science Education Leadership Association (MSELA) will jointly host a Zoom webinar on September 20 at 6PM on the role of diversity, equity, inclusion and antiracism (DEIA) in science education. It’s free and open to all . Dr. Laurie Nsiah-Jefferson will explore why DEIA is important, challenges and opportunities in addressing DEIA in science education, and strategies to do so.
