Grades 7-12: Register for Boston College Splash!, Nov. 14
Boston College will hold BC Splash on Sunday, November 14, in-person. Splash is a one-day, student-run program in which undergraduates and graduate students teach mini-courses for students in Grades 7-12. There will be a parallel Parent Program about admissions and financial aid, sample splash classes, student panels, and campus tours There’s a $5 fee for the day, which includes a pizza lunch. Grades 9-12: Register for Northeastern Splash!, Nov. 13
Northeastern University’s Splash! — a free program for high-school students to take mini-classes led by Northeastern undergraduate and graduate students — will be held in-person on November 13, 8:45AM-7:40PM, in Ryder Hall (11 Leon Street, Boston). It’s free (including pizza and a T-shirt), and it’s hosted by NEPTUN (a Northeastern University student group). Registration opens October 19. Masks are required at the event.
Mass. STEM Week, Oct. 18-22
This year Massachusetts STEM Week will be October 18-22. See the schedule of virtual and in-person events across the state. Several organizations have contributed free Design Challenges for students and educators to explore. This year’s theme is “See Yourself in STEM,” focusing on mentoring women, people of color, first-generation students, low-income individuals, English language learners, and people with disabilities — all of which are underrepresented in STEM fields.
NEOSEC Ocean Literacy Summit, Nov. 10-11
The New England Ocean Science Education Collaborative (NEOSEC) will hold its 8th biennial Ocean Literacy Summit — online on November 10 (9AM-1:45PM) with various options for field trips on November 11. The aim is to leverage New England’s assets to engage the public in understanding connections between people and the ocean. The cost is $45 for the online summit plus $20 per field trip. Blue Hill Observatory Online: Southern New England Weather Conference, Nov. 13
The 2021 Southern New England Weather Conference will be held online on November 13, 10AM-1:30PM. This free, public event is sponsored by the Blue Hill Observatory, the National Weather Service Norton MA, the UMass Lowell and Northern Vermont University-Lyndon College chapters of the American Meteorological Society. Science Club for Girls offers SCFGLive! — free weekly online science shows to engage Grades K-5 in STEM learning. They’re broadcast live on Fridays at 4PM on the SCFG Facebook page, YouTube channel, and website. NSHS Artificial Intelligence (AI) Club: 1st Meeting, Oct. 12

Audubon / Belmont Library Online Talk: The Lives of Native Owls, Oct. 14
The Belmont Public Library will host an online talk by Barbara Bates of Mass. Audubon’s Habitat Sanctuary: The Lives of Native Owls, on October 14, 6:30PM-7:30PM. The talk will focus on four species — Great Horned Owl, Barred Owl, Screech Owl, and Saw-whet Owl — and their adaptations and nesting habits, where to look for them, and how they manage to survive in our western suburbs.
