Empow Studios has opened registration for BUILD, its monthly membership program that includes two one-hour, after-school STEM classes each week. Classes are available in-person in Newton or Lexington, as well as online. The available classes include beginner and advanced levels in various topics, and an academic advisor assists in class selection and provides regular updates. Parents/guardians may schedule an online session for a free class and consultation.

The Knowledge Society: Innovation Program, In Person or Online, for Ages 13-18
The Knowledge Society (TKS) is a 10-month innovation mentorship program for ages 13-18. Groups of 30-40 students meet either online or in-person (in Boston, New York City, Los Angeles, Ottawa, Toronto, or Vancouver) on weekends from September 2021 through June 2022. Under the guidance of TKS directors, students:
- Learn about technologies such as blockchain, genomics, and nanotech;
- Develop skills in problem solving and presenting;
- Interact with mentors in partner companies;
- Conduct in-depth projects; and
- Develop relationships with peers in the program.
There’s an Innovate level for first-time students and an Activate level for returning students. Potential applicants are invited to schedule an online conversation with a current TKS student. The cost is $4,980 for online or $6,560 for in-person, and need-based financial aid is available. Applications are due April 5 and are followed by video interviews for finalists. Harvard Museums Online: After-School Animal Encounters–Weird Eaters, Mar. 3
Harvard Museums of Science and Culture will present a free, live, online, family-friendly event, After-School Animal Encounters: Weird Eaters, on March 3, 3PM-3:45PM. Museum staff will introduce live animals and explain creatures’ unusual diets and eating habits. Worcester Polytechnic Institute’s Pre-Collegiate Outreach program will offer its Tech Kids program virtually this year. UMass Amherst offers Winter Pre-College online academic programs for Grades 9-12. Some started earlier in December while others will start in January. Z-kai Learning Lab: Free In-Person LEGO Workshops for Ages 5-15, Dec. 7-16
Z-kai Learning Lab (450 Mass. Ave in Arlington) is offering free, in-person LEGO workshops for ages 5-15 to explore robotics in three levels: Basic (ages 5+), STEAM (ages 9+), and Advanced (ages 11+).
