New England Sci-Tech: Public Telescope Nights and Open House
The New England Sci-Tech (NEST) STEM education center (16 Tech Circle, off Route 9 in Natick) will host the following public events:
- Public Telescope Nights on August 13 and 14, 7PM-9PM, weather permitting.
- Public Open House on August 15, 2PM-4PM.

LigerBots Place Well in BattleCry Competition
Newton’s high-school robotics team, the Ligerbots, competed last week at Worcester Polytechnic Institute against 33 other teams from across New England in BattleCry — “the best off-season FIRST Robotics competition.” The Ligerbots finished 3rd overall in the playoffs, after placing 8th in the qualification matches.
Christa McAuliffe Center: Upcoming Events
The Christa McAuliffe Center at Framingham State University will offer the following events:
- Summer Family Night: Europa Encounter, online, for ages 12+, on August 4 at 7:30PM. $10 per participant (or $15 for two participating via one device).
- AstroNights Live: James Webb Space Telescope: Free virtual presentation on August 18 at 7:30PM.
- Planetarium Movie Days: Movies in the FSU Planetarium. August 24-26. $5 per person. Movies titles, dates, times, and registration links are in the link.
Trees Telling STEM Stories: Free Online Workshop for Teachers
The Harvard Forest will hold a free online workshop, Trees Telling STEM Stories, for Grade 6-12 STEM teachers and informal educators to introduce the Harvard Forest’s Witness Tree research and social media initiative. It will be held on August 26, 10AM-4PM. Register by August 13.

Newton Free Library: Online STEM Events for Ages 3-9
The Newton Free Library will host the following online STEM-related events:
- Animal Antics: A Stem Storytime: August 2, 10:30AM-11AM. Online storytimes, each featuring a different class/order of animals. For ages 3-6 and their caregivers. See Zoom link here.
- Little Lab Coats: Farms!: August 10, 6PM-7PM. Online discussion for ages 6-9. Space is limited. Registration is limited and opens on August 2 at 8:30AM. Zoom link will be sent after registration.
Empow Studios: BUILD After-School STEM Membership Program
Empow Studios has opened registration for BUILD, its monthly membership program that includes two one-hour, after-school STEM classes each week. Classes are available in-person in Newton or Lexington, as well as online. The available classes include beginner and advanced levels in various topics, and an academic advisor assists in class selection and provides regular updates. Parents/guardians may schedule an online session for a free class and consultation.
