CodeDay in Boston: Non-Hackathon for High-School and College Students, Nov. 7

Acquia will host a 24-hour event, CodeDay, from Noon on November 7 until Noon on November 8, for high-school and college students to collaborate on one-day coding of apps and games,  It’s one of 20 such events nationwide to offer students things to learn and people to meet.  (The focus is not on winning awards or getting jobs, so the organizers do not call it a hackathon.)  Registration is required and costs $20, which covers lunch, dinner, midnight snack, and breakfast.  If you’re staying overnight, bring a sleeping bag.

LigerBots Seek Exhibitors for Mini Maker Faire, Nov. 21

The LigerBots will hold a Mini Maker Faire as part of the FIRST Lego League qualifying tournament that the team will host on November 21, 8AM-3PM, at Newton North HS.  The aim of the Faire is to help local STEM organizations and services reach the expected audience of 500 students, ages 9-14, and to offer the exhibitors’ resources and opportunities to visiting families of tournament participants and spectators.  Exhibitors are encouraged to offer an activity, not just advertising, in keeping with the education nature of the event.  Faire tables are available in return for these suggested donations to the LigerBots:  $100 for corporations, $20 for STEM non-profits, and free for middle- and high-school clubs and active LigerBots sponsors.  For more information or to reserve an exhibit table, contact igor@levymeister.com by November 7.
