High-School STEM Innovators at Framingham State, Mar. 17

Ten80 Education will hold a STEM Innovators-in-Training session for teams of high-school students at Framingham State University on March 17, 9AM-1PM.  Students will attend workshops on the engineering process, innovation, and leadership.  Any high school or organization serving high-school students may register a team of five or more students.  Lunch is provided for teams registered by March 7.

Bentley is Donating Free Science Supplies to Mass. Schools

As it prepares to renovate its astronomy, biology, chemistry, geology, and physics laboratories, Bentley University is donating science supplies to Massachusetts school science programs.  The full inventory list will be available February 15 and will include glassware, plasticware, TI graphing calculators, magnetism demonstration kits, Vernier spirometers, Vernier EKG sensors, Ward’s minerals and rock collection, framed display maps, student electronic balances, Gallenkamp incubator, precision balance, analytical balance, stackable tablet armchairs, and more.  School teachers should make requests on school letterhead. “e” Inc. February Vacation Camp: Winter in the Rainforest, Feb. 16-19

The “e” Inc. Discovery and Action Center (114 16th Street in Charlestown) will offer Winter in the Rainforest, a February vacation camp for ages 6-12, 9AM-4PM on February 16-19.  With experiments, hands-on activities, and live specimens, kids will explore  topics such as how rainforest trees get so tall, how slowly a sloth moves, whether there are people living in the Amazon rainforest.  Cost is $300.  Extended hours available.  For more information, contact Sarah Chang at sarah.chang@einc-action.org.

Registration Opens Feb. 4 for BU’s U-Design Summer STEM for Middle Schoolers

Boston University offers several U-Design summer STEM workshops for students in Grades 6-9 at the BU College of Engineering in two separate sessions (8:30AM-4PM):  July 11-15 and July 18-22.  Here’s info on last summer’s workshops, which included Electrical and Mechanical Gizmos, Robo-Alley, and Flight School 101. Overnights at the Ecotarium: Girls on Mar. 5, Boys on Mar. 25

The Ecotarium in Worcester is hosting two overnights (7PM-8AM) in March, one for girls and one for boys, with a minimum of 28 participants each.  Others will take place in May.  These events are aimed at Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts, respectively, but those who are not affiliated with these scouting programs are welcome with an adult chaperone.  Cost is $50, including chaperones.  For registration or more information, contact 508.929.2703 or reservations@ecotarium.org.

Northeastern University: Women in Engineering Event for High-School Students, Feb. 20

As part of Discover Engineers Week, the Northeastern University chapter of the Society of Women Engineers will hold a free career event — Cool Women / Hot Careers — on February 20, 9:30AM-3PM for high-school students and their parents, as well as college counselors.  It includes breakfast, a student panel of engineering women, lunch, and engineering activities.
