Jr. Tech is hosting a state-wide Girls STEM Summit at Regis College on April 10, 8AM-4:15PM, for 250 girls in Grades 8-12. The event, sponsored by the Biogen Foundation, National Grid, and Regis College, will include a keynote address, career-specific workshops, an exhibition hall, and information on STEM educational programs. The cost is $55. Enrollment is filled, but there’s a waiting list.

Newton Community Ed is Hiring Summer Teens with STEM Skills
Newton Community Education is hiring students to help in its summer programs. Among the qualifications it seeks are the following STEM skills: Web design, Photoshop, and Computer Programming. TEC Summer Internships for Current Grade 10-12 Students
The Education Cooperative (TEC) is accepting applications until April 15 for Boston-area summer internships for students currently in Grades 10-12. They include these STEM fields: Computer Science; Engineering; Medical research; Medicine (Audiology, speech); Nutrition; Physical Therapy; Psychology; Radio; Science (geology/seismology); and Veterinary medicine. There will be an information session for students and parents at the Needham Public Library on March 8, 7-8PM.
MIT Spark Lottery: First-Come/First-Served Registration Starts Feb. 29
The lottery phase of registration for MIT’s SPARK program for Grades 7-8 (to be held on the weekend of March 12-13) is now closed, and registrants should receive results by this evening. The second phase of registration (first-come, first-served) will open on February 29, and subject to availability, registrants may add or drop classes until the close of registration on March 5. Girls Day at MIT Museum, Mar. 5
The MIT Museum’s Girls Day — Formed to Function, on March 5, will focus on the fields of design and engineering for ages 10+. Women from MIT’s Department of Mechanical Engineering and the Society of Women Engineers will lead Make to Move workshops for Girl Scouts (10AM-1PM) and hands-on activities for everyone (11AM-4PM). MITxplore Math Day for Grades 4-6, Mar. 13
MITxplore will hold its twice-a-year Math Day for Grades 4-6 at the MIT Media Lab on Sunday, March 13, 10AM-2:30PM. Space is limited, and registration is first-come/first-served until filled or until March 6. It’s free (including lunch and a T-shirt), and donations are appreciated. Innovation Institute: ‘At the Frontiers’ for Grades 8-12 Starts Mar. 16
The Innovation Institute‘s cutting-edge At the Frontiers program for Grades 8-12 will run in Newtonville on Wednesdays, March 16 through June 3, 7PM-8:30PM. This year’s program will focus on “Materials that Matter,” led by a team of Harvard and MIT post-doctoral students and advanced graduate students in materials sciences and engineering. Over 11 weeks, the program will use discussions and labs to investigate topics such as the molecular structure of materials, materials and biomechanical signatures, and “programmable matter.” Enroll online. The National Association of Black Engineers will hold its annual convention at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center, March 23-26, with some pre-convention events, as well. See the agenda. Science on the Street, the community outreach arm of the Cambridge Science Festival, matches STEM volunteers with opportunities to engage students, families, and adults at various cultural and community events across Massachusetts.
