JrCode: Register for Fall Computer Coding Classes

Registration is now open for JrCode‘s Fall after-school computer-coding classes located in:

  • Wellesley:  Grades K-2:  Pre-Gaming, Pre-Animation.  Grades 2-5: Foundations, Gaming – Level 1, Animation Level 1.  Grades 4-8:  Accelerated Foundations, Gaming Level – 2, Animation Level 2.  Grades 5-8:  JavaScript Foundations.
  • Dover and Medfield:  Grades 2-5:  Foundations, Grades 3-8:  Gaming – Level 1
  • Brookline:  Grades 6-8:  JavaScript Introduction.

Enroll Now for Innovation Institute Classes Beginning Sept. 7

Science Club for Girls: Free Programs for K-8, Register by Sept. 15

Science Club for Girls offers free programs to build confidence and STEM literacy for girls in Grades K-8.  Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis until September 15.  All are welcome to apply, and priority will be given to girls of color or demonstrating economic need, per the mission of Science Club for Girls.  Apply for these SCFG programs at Pine Manor College in Newton (among other locations in greater Boston):

LexHack Hackathon for High School Students, Sept. 17

LexHack will again be held at Lexington High School, this year on September 17 from 8AM to 11PM.  LexHack is a free, student-organized, all-day session for high-school students of any level of programming ability throughout the Boston area to collaborate on software projects.  The day (and evening!) includes prizes, food, mentors, learning, teamwork, and achievement.  BostonTechMom reports that it’s a great way to learn a lot and meet new friends in a short amount of time (see video from 2014’s event).  Register online.

Newton Girls Who Code: Register for Lottery by Sept. 22

Registration is now open for the Newton Girls Who Code club for the 2016-2017 club year.  Girls Who Code is a national, non-profit organization that inspires, educates, and equips girls with the computing skills to pursue 21st century opportunities. The Newton club holds two separate weekly sessions at the Newton Free Library, late-September to mid-May:  Tuesdays 6:30-8:30PM and Fridays 4:00-6:00PM. Both sessions are open to all students, Grades 6-12, by registration only.  Because of overwhelming interest last year, enrollment this year will be by lottery, with each session enrolling 15 first-time girls and 10 returning girls.  Register online for the lottery by Thursday, September 22.

The club will hold an optional information session for girls and their parents at the Newton Free Library on Monday, September 19 from 7PM to 9PM.  The www.newtongwc.org website has an enrollment guide and a calendar of meeting dates.  For more information, email info@newtongwc.org.

This fall, Einstein’s Workshop will offer classes on Saturdays at Andover Newton Theological School (Davis Hall, 210 Herrick Road) and will offer 3D Design & Printing classes during the week via Newton Community Education.
