Sign Up by Feb. 13 for MIT’s Spring HSSP, Saturdays, Grades 7-12

MIT’s Spring HSSP is a six-week academic program for Grades 7-12, held at MIT on Saturdays, February 24 to April 7 (except March 17), noon to 3PM.  All online registrations completed by February 13 will be considered equally in the course-assignment lottery, and registrations after that will be taken first-come/first-served until February 20.  The cost is $40 per student (regardless of the number of courses taken) and generous, need-based financial aid is available. A Few Places Remain for STEM Pathways Mini-Jamboree for High School and College Students, Feb. 17

STEM Pathways — a Boston University/MIT outreach program for synthetic biology — will host its annual Mini-Jamboree on Saturday, February 17 , 9:30AM-4PM on the BU campus, to expose high school and undergraduate students — particularly those from underrepresented communities — to synthetic biology, international competition, and recruiters for next season’s Boston University & MIT iGEM teams. Registration is free, required, and a few places remain open for high-school and undergraduate students as well as educators, representatives of companies and organizations, and volunteers. High-school students must be accompanied by an adult (parent, teacher, chaperone). Read about the 2017 mini-Jamboree.

Tufts CEEO’s ‘Exploring Engineering’ for Grades 5-8, Feb. 23

Tufts University’s Center for Engineering Education and Outreach (CEEO) will host Exploring Engineering for Grades 5-8 on February 23, 10AM-Noon in Tufts’s Alumnae Lounge, Aidekman Lobby, and Remis Sculpture Court. Space is limited, so register now (for each child separately). This is not a drop-off event; adults must remain on campus. For more information, contact Laura Fradin at laura.fradin@tufts.edu.

Northeastern’s ‘Engineering for Everyone’ Expo, Feb. 23

Students of all ages are invited to the Engineering for Everyone Expo hosted by Northeastern University’s Center for STEM Education on February 23, 10AM-1PM, at the university’s Curry Student Center Indoor Quad.  It’s part of Northeastern’s celebration of National Engineers Week.  Families, parents, and children are welcome to this free event full of activities, experiments, and demonstrations led by engineering students in organizations like NUTRONS, AIAA, BMES, GWISE, IEEE, IISE, Maker Club, and STEMOut. Pre-registration is suggested and will enter you in a raffle.

Girls Who Code Summer Immersion Program: Info Session Feb. 12

The Newton Free Library will host an information session about the Girls Who Code free, 7-week Summer Immersion Program for girls currently in Grades 10-11 to learn computer science and get exposure to technology jobs. The session will be held in the Library’s Druker Auditorium on February 12, 7-8PM. No prior experience is necessary to apply for the summer program. Stipends are available based on need. The program will be held in 14 cities, including Boston (July 9 – August 24). The application has one question and does not require grades or recommendations. Apply by February 16 for early acceptance or by March 16 for the regular deadline.
