The Model Bridge Competition is open to middle- and high-school students, in teams of up to three students supervised by a faculty advisor and mentored by practicing engineers. The challenge is to design and build a bridge of a specified material. Teams work with their advisor and mentors at school a minimum of two hours a week in November and January. The event kicks off on October 22 via online video. Competition Day will be February 7 at the Curry Student Center of Northeastern University, where bridges will be tested and judged. Awards for bridge aesthetics and strength will be presented at a luncheon during Engineers Week. Faculty advisors should register their teams now, in order to receive competition specifications later in October. The Model Bridge Competition is sponsored by Boston Society of Civil Engineers, the Massachusetts Pre-Engineering Program, and the Massachusetts Highway Department.
