Sign Up Now for MIT’s Spark Program, March 15-16, for Grades 7-8

Spark is a two-day program on MIT’s campus in which students in 7th to 8th grade take awesome classes from MIT students on a variety of subjects from arts and crafts to hardcore math and science topics.  This year’s classes include:

  • Large numbers
  • A brief history of information
  • The birthday problem and its applications
  • A world without gravity
  • Introduction to physics (kinematics)
  • Programming simple math in Python
  • Why are carrots orange?
  • Build a robot
  • Protein design
  • The science of brain health
  • Insects
  • The best of the solar system
  • Introduction to drug design for human diseases
  • Rapid-fire mechanics
  • The physics, chemistry, and biology of food
  • A Tour of the Elements

Spark will be on March 15 (1-7PM) and March 16 (9AM-4PM).  Registration is on a lottery basis and is now open until February 27.  The class catalog is located at <http://esp.mit.edu/learn/Spark/2014/view_classes>.  Spark costs $40 for the entire program, regardless of the number of classes taken, and generous financial aid is available. Lunch on Sunday will be provided free of charge.
