Discovery Education and 3M are sponsoring the 16th annual Discovery Education 3M Young Scientist Challenge for students in grades 5-8. Students enter by submitting a one- to two-minute video “communicating the science behind a possible solution to an everyday problem.” Entries will be evaluated on their creativity, scientific knowledge, persuasiveness, and overall presentation — and not on production skills. Videos may be recorded on cell phones or basic digital cameras and must be submitted online at www.youngscientistchallenge.com by April 22. Ten finalists will receive mentorships, and one winner will receive $25,000. Submission guidelines, tips from previous winners, and complete rules are at www.youngscientistchallenge.com.
