The Massachusetts State Science & Engineering Fair is for students from all Massachusetts public, private/parochial, and home schools. Each school may send two outstanding student projects directly to the State Fair — one individual project and/or one team project (2 or 3 students per team). Winners from each school Science Fair can also qualify for a Regional Fair, and the winners of the Regional Fairs may also enter the State Fair.
- The state High School Fair (grades 9-12) will be held Thursday-Saturday, May 3-5, at MIT.
- The state Middle School Fair (grades 6-8) will be held Saturday, June 2, at Worcester Technical High School.
Registration forms for Massachusetts high schools will be available at www.scifair.com starting on March 1, 2012. Online registrations must be completed within five days of your School Fair or Regional Fair (whichever is later), and no registration materials will be accepted after March 26, 2012.
The High School Regional Fair for Region V (South Shore, of which Newton is a part) will be Saturday, March 10 at Bridgewater State University. Read the first round of instructions for registering (PDF), which includes Rules for Eligibility, Rules for Student Science Fair Projects, and a checklist for a successful science fair.
The Middle School Regional Fair for Region V will be Saturday, April 28at Regis College in Weston. It’s open to grades 6-8. The top 40 projects will move on to the state fair.
